Acts 27:35-36 ESV
And when he had said these things, he took bread, and giving thanks to God in the presence of all he broke it and began to eat. Then they were all encouraged and ate some food themselves.
The ship Paul was sailing on was caught in a devastating storm. They were tired, fatigued, struggling to stay alive. For fourteen days they had not eaten anything.
Paul was in the same storm, same situation, yet full of hope. He encouraged them by reminding them all that not a hair from their head would perish! (V34) Because God had spoken!
Oh Lord may we hear you today!
Then Paul took bread (may never see bread again for some time!) and gave thanks to God (with the ship tossing here and there!) and began to eat. The Bible says they were all encouraged and ate.
I don’t think Paul ever questioned God why He allowed the storm. Men of old did not waste time questioning the purpose of suffering. They just looked for God in the middle of their storms and gave thanks.
Thanksgiving is not a good idea, it’s what saves us. When storms of life threaten to squeeze the breath out of you, and you still whisper thanks to God - that’s victory! That’s the miracle!
When you don’t have all the answers and yet with your one flame of hope you ignite all the blind candles around you, that’s testimony! That is the gospel.
Meditate:
* 1 Thessalonians 5:18 ESV
Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.
Pray:
* Refuse to question and choose to thank Him.
* Pray that your land would be healed.
* Pray for favor over your company because of you.
