Day 26 – A Source of Peace

2 Thessalonians 3:16 calls God, the Lord of peace. Peace is a gift from your Father that steadies your heart even in chaos. His peace is unshakable, regardless of the circumstances you’re in.

I believe one of the best examples of godly peace is the story of Horatio Spafford. He wrote the song and hymn, “It is well with my soul.” According to Hymnologist, Kenneth Osbeck, In 1871, Horatio lost his entire fortune in a Chicago fire. Prior to that, his four-year-old son had died of scarlet fever. He felt a family vacation would be great, so he put his wife and four daughters on a ship and promised to join them shortly. Their ship was involved in a collision and sunk. His wife survived but not his four girls. While taking another ship to England to go meet his wife, he wrote that beautiful hymn over the same ocean that claimed the life of his daughters.

We can look at the life of Apostle Paul and the peace he had even while chained in what historians call one of the most filthy, darkest and coldest prisons. He still wrote in Philippians 4:11-13 that he’s learned to be content in all situations no matter the circumstance. God is your ultimate source of true peace so breathe deeply and repeat, “God’s peace guards my heart and mind in Christ.”
