Day 27 – A Defender of Justice

God is a defender of justice! You may be wondering, what does this have to do with me? Psalm 146:7 (NIV) says, “He upholds the cause of the oppressed and gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets prisoners free.” You may not be in a physical prison or facing a court case where you need justice, but we all need the character of our Daddy as a defender of justice every day.

Revelation 12:10 (NIV) says, “And I heard a loud voice saying in Heaven, “Now have come the salvation and the power, and the Kingdom of our God, and the authority of His Messiah; for the accuser of our brothers and sisters, who accused them before our God day and night has been hurled down.” Did you know that you have an enemy who hates you bitterly who goes before God to accuse you of things (most you’re probably guilty of) daily? That enemy is Satan. When you sin and disobey God, he goes to God accusing you of sin and rebellion and demands your life as he did even for Peter, a disciple of Jesus (Luke 22:31-32).

Just like Jesus did for Peter, He prays for you even if you deserved for Satan to destroy you. The Bible says that Jesus sits on the right-hand side of God and He prays for us, He is our High Priest and our lawyer (Hebrews 4:14-16). Praise God!

Even if you are facing an earthly case where you need God to step in as a defender, trust Him to work with your lawyers and other legal representatives to defend you! If you are already in prison, trust Him to defend you and protect you. In turn, show mercy and grace to the defenseless around you. Pray for someone who is oppressed or mistreated, asking God to intervene on their behalf.
