Father’s Love: 30 Days of Discovering God as FatherSample

Day 7 – A Disciplinarian
God is a loving Father who disciplines. Hebrews 12:6 (NIV) says, “The Lord disciplines the one he loves, and He chastens everyone He accepts as His son.” Discipline may feel uncomfortable, but it proves you are God’s child. His correction shapes your future. God’s discipline is evidence of His love, shaping you into His likeness.
John 15:2 (ESV) says, “Every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, that it may bear more fruit.” Oxford dictionary defines pruning as, “to trim or cut away dead or overgrown branches or stems especially to increase fruitfulness and growth.” God loves you too much to allow dead things, sinful things, bad habits, bad friendships or relationships, bad attitude or behavior, poor mindset or belief system, etc. to hang around your life. He cuts them away so you can be fruitful and grow. It is only then that you can truly fulfill what John 15:4-11 says.
God’s discipline isn’t easy, but it shapes you into who He created you to be. Your journey is unique, with a kingdom purpose only you can fulfill. Don’t compare your discipline to others—you’ll miss the lesson and risk repeating a season of pruning.
Reflect on an area today where God may be correcting you and choose to surrender instead of resist.
Read, internalize, and pray each scripture to deepen your faith.
