Peace in the Storm

DAY 17 OF 30

A New Thing

God is speaking through Isaiah to a people who had seen His power in the past but were stuck in their present. He reminds them: “Don’t get so focused on yesterday that you miss what I’m doing today.”

This verse shows us that God is not limited to old methods. He says, “I’m doing a new thing.” That means fresh strategy, fresh provision, fresh breakthrough. But here’s the challenge: you have to perceive it. God can be moving, but if your eyes are on the past, you’ll miss the new thing springing up right in front of you. New things often look unfamiliar, but they are the evidence of His creativity and His faithfulness to do more than we imagined.

And look at where He promises to do it — in the wilderness and in the wasteland. In other words, the places you thought were dead ends are about to become doorways. The dry places are about to overflow. The wilderness is about to reveal His wonder.

I’ve had seasons where everything familiar ended, and it scared me. I couldn't handle situations the way I did before. I couldn't pray the same way I did before. Those seasons birthed new opportunities, new growth, and new perspectives. God was stretching me for what I didn’t even know I needed. I literally could feel the Holy Spirit urging me to a new way of serving and seeking God's face. If I tried to operate in the old ways, things just didn't click. Surrendering to the new thing, even when it leads to areas of unknown, opened doors to the best seasons and moments I have ever had in my life.

Don't get so caught up in the old that you miss the new. Ask God: “Lord, what new thing are You doing in me?” Write it down and choose to perceive it instead of resisting it. Look for God’s hand in unexpected places — even in your wilderness. Trust that He can bring life out of what looks wasted and impossible.
