Peace in the Storm

DAY 8 OF 30

God is Close to the Brokenhearted

David wrote this while testifying that God doesn’t run from brokenness — He runs toward it. People might distance themselves when you’re hurting because they don’t know what to say, but God does the opposite. He draws near. He makes His presence known in the places where your heart feels shattered.

This verse reminds us that brokenheartedness is not a disqualification — it’s an invitation. When you feel crushed, God comes close. When life knocks the wind out of you, God's Spirit breathes life back in. His nearness doesn’t always mean He takes the pain away instantly, but it means you won’t have to walk through it alone.

The beauty here is that God doesn’t just comfort — He saves us in the middle of it. Brokenness can feel like drowning, but the Lord rescues, lifts, and restores. That’s His promise: He’s not just near you; He’s actively working to bring you out.

I’ve gone through heartbreaks that made me feel crushed beyond repair. Of course one would automatically think about romantic heart break, but I know I'm not the only one who has become brokenhearted from missed opportunities, unmet expectations, feeling overlooked and overused, death of loved ones, and even the idea of the life you thought you should've had. But in those moments, I found God’s nearness to be more real than ever. He wrapped me in peace when nothing else could.

Don’t mistake your brokenness for abandonment — God is closer than ever. Invite God into the broken places today. Tell Him exactly where it hurts and wait for His presence to surround you. His nearness is healing and you can trust that God is not only comforting you but that he is also delivering you.
