Tough As Nails: DanielSample

The historical book of second Kings ends with the description of the fall of Jerusalem. We read in verse one about Nebuchadnezzar invading during King Jehoiakim’s reign. It was a brutal time with much suffering. To put this in perspective we should read the poetic description from a Jerusalem prophet named Jeremiah. He was called the weeping prophet because he suffered so deeply for obeying God. Specifically, he was a lone voice warning the people of Jerusalem about the impending doom because of their disobedience. His descriptions were vivid and specific about the kind of terror Nebuchadnezzar would unleash on their people. The locals wanted nothing to do with Jeremiah’s doomsday prophecies. So instead of repenting they beat him for predicting what they did not want to hear.
