River Valley Church SOAP - Part 5Sample

After being raised in the pharaoh’s palace, Moses fled Egypt and spent 40 years in Midian tending his father-in-law’s flock. God was preparing Moses for his future task of shepherding Israel through the desert towards the Promised Land. In these chapters, we read a vivid illustration of the first time God appears to Moses. He is given specific instructions on how to address His people and the precise steps to take when confronting Pharaoh. The Lord identifies Himself by telling Moses, ‘I Am Who I Am’, which translates as Yahweh in Hebrew. God was showing Moses that He wanted to be known by His people; He was a present and active God who wanted to know His people. Just as God faithfully cared for and loved His people while slaves in Egypt, He continued caring as they wandered in the wilderness 40 years and eventually entered the Promised Land. He is ever present in our world today and He longs to be active and known to all of His people.
