SWHW Bible Reading Plan: December 2021

DAY 5 OF 23

Top Takeaway from Lauren Diggs:

“Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord God Almighty, who was and is and is to come!” Revelation 4:8b

I can't help but sing the chorus of "The Revelation Song," written by Jennie Lee Riddle and first made popular by Kari Jobe, which are the exact words of this chapter. I remember when that worship song first arrived on the scene. It was played on the radio, sung in countless churches on Sunday mornings, and wept to on bended knees by Christians worldwide. If you haven’t heard the song, please do yourself a favor and add it to your go-to worship playlist.

It. Is. Powerful. And not because it tugs at the tender heartstrings of our emotional circumstance at the moment, but because those words cause us to join in perfect unison with all creation to worship our Creator.

Leading up to Chapter four, the Lord shared with the seven churches their strengths, their weaknesses, and the persecution to come, encouraging them to remain in Him. So why immediately follow that with a vision of all creation worshipping the Lord? Well, I believe there’s a couple of reasons for that:

to catch a glimpse of the worship of Heaven

to invite us to be a part of that worship now

When we are shown glimpses of Heaven, it encourages our hearts and spurs us on in the mission. But when we join with all creation in the worship of God simply because He’s God and worthy to “receive glory and honor and power…” (Revelation 4:11b), we proclaim the victory we have because of the Lamb that was slain. That kind of worship changes your posture. It shifts your focus. And it reminds you of what matters most.

Plenty is going on around us that could discourage us, weigh us down, and break us, but we’re invited to worship the Lord God Almighty in the midst of it. If you need a little piece of Heaven on earth today, quiet the noise, open up the Word, and worship our Creator. Worshipping our Almighty God is what we’ll get to do for all eternity, and nothing sounds sweeter.

Dear Heavenly Father, thank You for who You are. You are worthy to receive all glory and honor, and power. You are the Lamb that was slain, and by Your blood, I have eternity to worship You. Holy, holy, holy, are You. The whole earth is filled with Your glory. Help me not be so distracted by the cares of this world that I don’t enter into Your presence on this side of Heaven with hands lifted high, praising Your name. Open my eyes to see Your glory around me, and may my life be one of worship unto You. I love You, Lord. Amen.

About this Plan

SWHW Bible Reading Plan: December 2021

Using God's Word as the foundation for our conversation, every devotional is written by women in the trenches of faith, family, and work, aiming to live for the glory of God and the good of others. There are enough devotions included for a typical five-day work schedule. We recommend plugging into your local church for the remaining two days of each week.
