Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "Look at "UsSample
When I was a kid, I remember my parents once held my birthday celebration in an orphanage where I shared meal boxes and goodie bags. I did not understand at that time why I should share food, and goodie bags and throw a party with a bunch of kids who were strangers and did not give me any presents.I’d rather celebrate with my cousins and classmates because they usually gave me presents!
But the Bible challenges us to do much more than just give. It tells us to “love your neighbor as yourself” and “love your enemy”.This is not only a matter of giving, it is about generosity, putting forth your best effort, sacrificing, and having a pure, unconditional loving heart like Jesus.
As I have grown up, I still prefer to share and give things away to the people that I know rather than to strangers. I can feel the appreciation and acceptance from them, which I would not get if I gave to strangers, naturally.
It is definitely not easy to give to, help or love strangers or even enemies. We will not be able to do it with our own strength. But God has loved us first with an everlasting love. He will enable us, and strengthen us so that we can give and love others as much as He loves us. Are you willing to try?
