Finding the Words

DAY 1 OF 30

NOTE: Each day, a prayer is written based on that day's Bible reading.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today in awe that You are so great and mighty in every way, and yet You are mindful of us. You have created us in Your image, and recreated us in Christ - adopting us into Your heavenly family and calling us Your very sons and daughters. May Your reputation be known throughout this earth for who You really are, a holy, kind, merciful, and faithful God.

We live today as exiles on this earth, away from our heavenly home, and longing for the day when Your Kingdom will be established here, so that Your ways will fill the earth as water covers the sea. We long for the day when sin will be replaced with sanctified works, and when Jesus reigns for all to see.

Dear Father, we pray that You would provide for us the things we need for this day … physical provision for our bodies and spiritual provision for our souls. May we respond to Your provision with a spirit of thankfulness and not an attitude of wondering why we have not received more. We have received Your provision for this day, and we are thankful.

And now, dear Father, we ask Your forgiveness for the sins we have committed against You; for the ways we have wandered away from You and dishonored You through what we have thought, said, or done. Thank You for the forgiveness You have made available to us through Your Son Jesus Christ. We pray that You would empower us through the work of Your Spirit to forgive others, even as we have been forgiven by Jesus.

We also ask that You would protect our steps in the days ahead, and that we would not follow temptation into evil places. We pray for Your strength to stay strong this week.

For Yours in the Kingdom and the power and the glory forever … and it is in the name of Your Son who taught us to pray that we pray - AMEN.

About this Plan

Finding the Words

Ask many Christians about their prayer life, and they will admit their struggle to find the words to pray. For thousands of years, liturgies have helped believers articulate words in their communication with God. This collection of 30 prayers (and the Scripture behind them) is designed to improve our prayer lives as we allow God's Word to populate our words in prayer.
