Finding the Words

DAY 3 OF 30

NOTE: Each day, a prayer is written based on that day's Bible reading.

Dear Heavenly Father,

We come before You today and thank You that we are fearfully and wonderfully made. You made us in Your image, to live in relationship with You. Because of that, we have amazing capabilities and understanding, and we walk with You, pray to You, and rely upon You day by day.

But Lord, as Adam and Eve sinned long ago in the Garden, so also, we have sinned. We have sinned in what we have said, in what we have thought, and in what we have done. More dramatically, we have a fallen nature that is drawn to sin, even when we know better. When Adam and Eve sinned, they dove into the bushes to hide from each other and from You … and just so, our sin has separated us and isolated us from each other and from You.

Dear Father, we come before You today and confess our sin, and humbly ask for Your forgiveness. We ask for Your forgiveness on the basis of Your identity as a gracious and merciful God, abounding in lovingkindness; but even more so, we ask for Your forgiveness of our sin because of Jesus' death on the cross on our behalf. For Christ’s sake, forgive us, dear Lord. Wash away our sin, and restore our fellowship with You and one another.

We thank You that Your forgiveness is sure for those who are trusting in Your Son. May we live now as forgiven people, cleansed of our guilt and transformed by Your grace.

In the saving name of Jesus, we pray - AMEN

About this Plan

Finding the Words

Ask many Christians about their prayer life, and they will admit their struggle to find the words to pray. For thousands of years, liturgies have helped believers articulate words in their communication with God. This collection of 30 prayers (and the Scripture behind them) is designed to improve our prayer lives as we allow God's Word to populate our words in prayer.
