When you sit in a theater, you see what happens on stage — the actors, the scenery, the lights. But behind the curtain, there’s so much more going on: stage directions, set changes, decisions, which shape what you see on the stage.

Our lives are similar. We experience the visible stage of this world — people, relationships, conflicts, decisions. Behind this visible layer, there’s a spiritual reality we cannot see with our eyes — yet it is very real.

Paul writes that the devil blinds the minds of many people so that they cannot see the light of the Gospel. There is someone actively trying to keep us away from God. That’s why our faith is not a comfortable walk in the park — it’s a spiritual battle, not against people, but against powers and forces that operate invisibly.

And this battle is often quieter than we think. If the devil can’t defeat you, he’ll try to keep you busy — with things that capture your attention, fill your calendar, and drain your heart. You don’t have to be defeated to be distracted. Sometimes all it takes is an endless scroll through TikTok or another episode on Netflix. That’s why it’s so important to look behind the scenes and recognize what’s really at stake.

We don’t fight with arguments or persuasion, even though good arguments have their place. The real battle happens through prayer and by trusting God’s Word. Through both, we can look behind the curtain and have an impact there. When you pray, you speak God’s truths into the unseen world — and that changes things.

Paul urges us to “put on the full armor of God.” This spiritual armor protects you and gives you stability when the pressure increases. Against the lies of the enemy, we wear God’s truth like a belt — because what He says about us is what truly matters. God’s Word is the sword in our hand. Just as Jesus confronted the devil in the wilderness with Scripture, we can stand firm in spiritual battles when we know God’s Word, believe what He says about us, and align our lives with it. In doing so, the enemy loses ground — in us, in our families, and in our workplaces.

Ask God today to show you His perspective — particularly when people or situations become difficult. Don’t fight against people; fight in prayer.
