DAY 15 OF 21

Day 15 – BE LOVE: How They Will Know

Scripture: John 13:34–35; 1 John 4:20

Imagine you’re meeting someone you’ve never met in person before. You’re waiting at the meeting spot when they pull up in a white Chevy Silverado with a sticker on the back that says, “Roll Tide.” They step out wearing a red hoodie with “ALABAMA” written across the chest and a white baseball cap with a big red cursive A on it.

Most people wouldn’t need much time to figure out what they’re a fan of. Without saying a word, their identity is already clear.

There are signs people carry that point to who they are. Sometimes those signs show where someone’s from or what they care about. Other times, they show whether someone really is who they claim to be. A person who says they’re a basketball player but can’t dribble a ball, or someone who claims to be a Michael Jackson fan but doesn’t know “Thriller” or “Billie Jean,” wouldn’t be very convincing.

Jesus says the same thing is true when it comes to following Him.

When Jesus talks about what will identify His followers, He doesn’t point to rules, religious language, or how much Scripture someone knows. He says people will know you belong to Him by how you love one another. Love is the marker. Love is the Christian’s signature.

That kind of love isn’t just about being kind when it’s easy or loving people who already love you back. Love shows up in how you treat people who are different from you, people who frustrate you, people who are overlooked, and even people who hurt you. It’s visible. It’s practical. And it costs something.

The Bible is clear about this. You can’t claim to love God, whom you cannot see, while hating or refusing to love people you can see. Those two things can’t be separated. If love for God is real, it will always show up in how you treat others.

To be love means letting what God has done in you move outward. It means allowing His love to shape your words, your reactions, and your choices every day.

The way you love tells the world who you belong to.

So love boldly.
Love consistently.
Let them know.

About this Plan

BeLOVE(d)

You are Beloved. Called to be loved. Sent to be love. This 21-day devotional invites students to discover who they are in Christ, learn how to receive God’s love, and live that love out daily. Through Scripture, honest reflection, and real-life examples, students will explore their identity, respond to God’s invitation, and grow in what it means to love like Jesus. Whether faith feels new or familiar, this plan challenges students to trust God’s heart, choose His way, and let love shape how they live.
