DAY 18 OF 21

Day 18 – BE LOVE: Like Jesus

Scripture: Mark 10:45; John 13:13–15; John 15:13

What’s the difference between a boss and a leader?

A boss gives orders and expects results. A leader sets the tone, steps in, and is willing to do the work alongside everyone else. A boss looks for recognition. A leader looks for responsibility.

Jesus was not a boss.

He didn’t stay distant, giving instructions from a place of comfort. He didn’t hand out assignments while sitting back and watching others struggle. Jesus came close. He stepped into human life fully and showed us what love looks like in action.

Even though Jesus is the King of kings, He made it clear that He didn’t come to be served, but to serve. He helped the hurting, welcomed the rejected, defended the overlooked, and corrected with compassion. He didn’t just talk about love. He lived it.

One of the clearest pictures of this happens just hours before His death. Jesus gathers His disciples in a room. They call Him Teacher and Lord, and He is exactly that. Yet instead of expecting them to serve Him, He takes on the role of the lowest servant and washes their feet.

Then He tells them, “I have set you an example.” In other words, this is what love looks like.

Jesus showed that no one is too important to serve others. Love is not about position or status. It’s about humility and sacrifice.

He takes it even further when He says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.” Jesus didn’t just say those words. He lived them. He gave everything for people who didn’t always understand Him, appreciate Him, or stay loyal to Him.

To be love means choosing to follow His example. It means serving even when it goes unnoticed. Loving even when it costs you something. Putting others before yourself, not because it’s easy, but because it reflects Jesus.

He showed us how to love.
Now we’re called to live it.
