Despite Everything

DAY 1 OF 7

Love is a covenant "despite everything”

You've probably heard the phrase, "They're just perfect for each other." Modern culture convinces us that a happy marriage is the result of choosing the right person. If the choice is right, everything will work out. If not, there will be no real happiness.

Of course, it is important to approach the choice of your spouse prayerfully and thoughtfully. However, in this Bible plan, God invites you on a prayerful journey: to look at marriage from a different perspective.

The Gospel offers a deeper insight: a happy marriage is not the result of a right choice, but the fruit of persistent work in obedience to Christ.

Jesus concludes the Sermon on the Mount with the image of a house built on a rock. Both houses experience rain, floods, and winds. The difference is not whether there will be storms, but what the house is built on. The same is true of marriage. Everyone experiences crises. The question is whether there is a foundation.

Marriage vows are not a description of current feelings. They are a promise of future love. They are a decision to love not only when it is easy, but also when it is difficult. Not because the other person is perfect, but because love is a covenant.

A house stands not because of its beautiful facade, but because of its strong foundation. Love is preserved not because of a happy character match, but because of obedience to Christ. He is the rock that holds the house together, despite everything.

Questions for reflection:

  • What is my marriage or my idea of it based on today: feelings or a covenant?
  • What "storms" are currently testing the foundation of our relationship?
  • What does it mean for me to build love on Jesus' words and not just on my own expectations?

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for my marriage and for the person You have united me with. Teach me to build love not on feelings, but on obedience to You. Strengthen the foundation of our relationship so that our home will stand against any storm. Be the Rock on which our love rests.

Amen.

About this Plan

Despite Everything

Marriage goes through storms—big and small. The question is not whether they will come, but what your home is built on. This plan is about love that is based not only on feelings, but on the covenant, grace, and obedience to Christ. It is about a marriage that is not perfect, but alive. It is about love that learns to forgive, guard the heart, draw strength from the Gospel, and trust God every day. If you want to build a relationship that can withstand everything, this plan is for you.
