A house built on a rock, not on sand
Jesus talks about two houses that may look very similar on the outside. Both have been built, both have taken time and effort, and both probably have someone living in them with hope for the future. The difference between them becomes apparent not on a sunny day, but when the rains, floods, and winds come.
It is the same with marriage. At the beginning, almost all relationships look promising. Love, plans, shared dreams. But over time, burdens come: fatigue, conflicts, financial pressure, changes, losses. Exactly in these times, it becomes clear what the house is built on.
Jesus says that a house built on a rock is a life built on listening to and obeying His words. It is not enough to know what is right; we must live by it. It is not enough to quote Scripture; we must allow it to shape our reactions, words, and decisions, especially in conflicts.
The spirituality of marriage is measured not by the number of shared prayers or Bible readings, but by whether the other person feels safer, warmer, and more secure with me. Whether they feel the blessing that comes from my relationship with Christ.
Storms do not destroy a strong house—they only show that the foundation is solid. Sometimes it is crises that become God's invitation to return to the basics and build again on the Rock.
Questions for reflection:
- What shapes my reactions in marriage today: Jesus' words or my emotions?
- How does my faith affect the atmosphere in our relationship?
- In what situations is it most difficult for me to obey Christ?
Prayer:
Lord, teach me not only to listen to Your words, but also to live by them. Help me to build our relationship on You, so that our home may stand firm in any storm.
Amen.
