Understanding RighteousnessSample

The Failure of Human Righteousness
Scripture: Philippians 3:7-9
"But what things were gain to me, these I have counted loss for Christ. Yet indeed I also count all things loss for the excellence of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and count them as rubbish, that I may gain Christ and be found in Him, not having my own righteousness, which is from the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness which is from God by faith;"
Devotional
When we base our worth on our own works, we may find that our efforts never quite measure up. Even the most zealous efforts can feel like "filthy rags" when compared to God's holiness. As believers, we are invited to see our standing not through the lens of our failures, but through the infinite value of knowing Christ. Like the Apostle Paul, we can choose to count our own achievements as secondary to the grace of Christ, relying fully on His work rather than our own.
The Apostle Paul, who was an expert in keeping the Law, understood the infinite value of Christ. In Philippians 3:7-9 he says that he now considers worthless things he thought were valuable because of what Christ did. Paul no longer counts on his own righteousness through obeying the law. Like the Apostle Paul, we can choose to count our own achievements as secondary to the grace of Christ, relying fully on His work rather than our own.
Reflection Questions:
- Do I mistakenly use scriptures to condemn my position, forgetting I have the gift of righteousness?
- What do I value more than the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus, my Lord?
Prayer Declaration
Lord, I acknowledge that my own efforts and achievements are worthless compared to Your grace. I receive the gift of righteousness You have provided through Christ. I choose today to fully rely on the worth of Christ's finished work, not my own. Amen.

About this Plan

Righteousness is a gift. It is not something you work for, struggle for, or attain through personal effort. This 18-day plan from Pastor Stephen Waiganjo and Ruach West Assembly is designed to help you explore how the Gift of Righteousness is your permanent, non-negotiable qualification. Through reflection, and prayer, we invite you to move past the weight of human effort and rest in the grace of your right standing with God.
