The Role of Faith

Scripture: Romans 1:17

"For in the gospel the righteousness of God is revealed—a righteousness that is by faith from first to last, just as it is written: “The righteous will live by faith".

Devotional

The good news tells us how God makes us right in His sight through faith in a journey that begins and ends with trusting Him. Our own efforts thus do not add to what Christ has already completed. Scripture in Galatians 2:16 further affirms that a person is made right with God by faith in Jesus Christ, not by obeying the law.

This righteousness is not something we earn but something we receive. As we read in Romans 5:17, those who receive God’s abundant provision of grace and the gift of righteousness reign in life through Jesus Christ. Faith, therefore, is the means by which we receive this gift, shifting our focus from performance under the law to a relationship with Christ. As we grow in knowing Him by faith, we find a natural motivation to live a life of integrity and abundant provision of grace.

Reflection Questions:

• Am I resting fully in the truth that my righteousness is secured from start to finish by faith?
• How can I strengthen my faith to appropriate the truth that I am right with God, despite my feelings?

Prayer Declaration

Lord, I thank You that I am made right with You by faith in Jesus Christ. Teach me to walk fully in this faith and to live in the power of the righteousness You have freely given me. I declare my dependence on Your finished work, not my own. Amen.
