DAY 2 OF 40

Week 1 – Day 2 (Thursday)

Psalm 133 - Community

Jesus steps out into public ministry, gathering disciples to follow Him. Without question, Jesus had the power to engage in victorious ministry alone, but He chose to do ministry with others. Simon Peter and his brother Andrew, James and his brother John (Matthew 4:18-22), and eight others follow. Each man entered this group with their strengths and weaknesses. Jesus loved them for who they were and saw the potential of who they could become. Each disciple brought their own unique contribution to Jesus’s team.

There is power in bringing others into community ministry. God’s bend has always been on building a body of believers. And when the body of believers works in concert with one another, it is a force to be reckoned with!

Today’s Psalm is one of the “Psalms of Ascent” (Psalm 120-134), also known as “The Pilgrims’ Song.” Annually, Jews travelled to Jerusalem for one of the three main Jewish festivals and traditionally sang these songs on the ascent, or the uphill road to the city.

Psalm 133 emphasizes the beauty and positivity that come when believers unite in harmony. Unity promotes a sense of belonging, support, and shared purpose among believers, building a strong and unbreakable bond that reflects God's love and character.

The vivid imagery of oil being poured on Aaron, the high priest, symbolizes the anointing of God’s chosen leaders. This demonstrates that when believers come together in one accord, they are not only blessed individually but also empower their leaders to fulfil their divine calling more effectively.

Mount Hermon was a mountain known for its abundant dew, symbolizing the blessings and refreshment that result from unity among God’s people. Mount Zion, on the other hand, is often used in the Bible as a symbol of God’s presence and blessings that are powerfully experienced when His people work together for His glory.

Imagine what can be accomplished when the Lord's people walk in unity!
