DAY 4 OF 40

Week 1 – Day 4 (Saturday)

Psalm 5:1-3 – The Touch of God

Following the Sermon on the Mount, Jesus descends from the mountain with awestruck crowds behind Him (Matthew 8:1-4). A man afflicted with leprosy, desperate for healing, pushes through the crowd, throws himself at Jesus’ feet, and says, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” It is important to notice that the leper calls Jesus "Lord," which signifies His authority and power to free him from this death sentence. Jesus heals the man with a touch and warns him to keep the healing quiet. He then instructs him to follow the law of Moses by obtaining a declaration of cleansing from the priest and re-entering society.

Jesus’ touch in this account coincides with today’s Psalm. The psalmist is crying out and praying to hear from God, longing to connect with Him. The leper is healed because of his confidence that Jesus can do it. This matches the psalmist's words, “…Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.”

The Lord is willing and able, and our confident faith also plays an important role in the transaction.
