Week 2 – Day 9 (Friday)
Psalm 119:27-29 – Power of the Word
Cause me to understand the way of your precepts, that I may meditate on your wonderful deeds. My soul is weary with sorrow; strengthen me according to your word. Keep me from deceitful ways; be gracious to me and teach me your law.
God the Father is revealed in the Son, and we experience the unforced rhythms of God’s grace when Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) Throughout history, humankind has needed this reminder, as centuries before Jesus spoke these words, the psalmist wrote, “My soul is weary with sorrow, strengthen me according to your word.”
Isn’t it comforting to know that the divine grace offered in the Old Testament by the psalmist and by Jesus in the New Testament is abundantly available to us today? May you be strengthened by meditating on God’s Word.
You can meditate, for it is the opposite of worry – both are constant replays in your mind. Give your grace... whenever worries come up, intentionally shift that train of thought to God’s Word, and God will “strengthen [you] according to [His] word.”
