Week 2 – Day 8 (Thursday)
Psalm 25:4-11 – A Humble Heart
Show me your ways, Lord, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long. Remember, Lord, your great mercy and love, for they are from of old.
Do not remember the sins of my youth and my rebellious ways; according to your love remember me, for you, Lord, are good.
Good and upright is the Lord; therefore, he instructs sinners in his ways. He guides the humble in what is right and teaches them his way. All the ways of the Lord are loving and faithful toward those who keep the demands of his covenant. For the sake of your name, Lord, forgive my iniquity, though it is great.
Jesus acknowledged, honored, and defended the character and ministry of John the Baptist (Matthew 11:7-14). John was a man confident in his beliefs and passionate about sharing God’s redemptive message. Clearly, he was an “out-of-the-box” preacher for his time, and he understood the importance of remaining true to the role God had given him; nothing would sway him from The Truth.
Possibly, words from today’s psalm resonated in John the Baptist's soul, keeping him on the course that was mapped out for him. He accepted this chosen path for his life because he believed his God was “good and upright” (vs. 8), and the truths of his Lord were filled with “great mercy and love.” (vs. 6) He humbled himself before God in his way and will throughout his life.
The Lord is your Defender, and His truth is filled with great love and mercy. Live it out with humility of heart today!
