Week 2 – Day 6 (Tuesday)
Psalm 72:12-13 – Who,…Me?
With every passing day of Jesus’ earthly ministry, a growing recognition emerges. Matthew 9 continues to describe the multitudes who come to Jesus, desperate and helpless for relief (Matthew 9:35-38). As they arrive, compassion fills His heart because they seem helpless and harassed. Jesus then turns to His disciples and says, “The harvest is plentiful but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.” (vs. 37)
We all, at one time or another, have seen an unfortunate soul or circumstance and said, “Someone should do something.” Have you ever turned that statement into a question by ending with “…and is it me, Lord?”
Today’s psalm promises that the Lord will deliver the needy, afflicted, and weak. There is New Testament scripture that emphasizes this truth and includes an important phrase: “Now to him who can do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen.” (Ephesians 3:20-21) We can be the conduit!
There are those in our sphere of influence who are in need, and we may have the ability “…according to his power that is at work within us…” to bring relief and glorify God.
Is there someone whose need you can meet in Jesus’ name? It simply takes availability, desire, and openness to the Holy Spirit's leading. Then, we will see others through Jesus' eyes and be able to meet needs in His name.
