Holy Week

DAY 4 OF 8

Spy Wednesday

Holy Wednesday was heavy with silence. Judas chose betrayal. Religious leaders finalised their plans. The storm gathered quietly, yet Jesus remained faithful to His mission. Scripture gives us a few details about Judas’ inner world, but it’s enough to warn us. Betrayal rarely begins in a moment; it grows through small compromises, unmet expectations, and unresolved disappointment.

Frederick Buechner writes, “Betrayal does not come suddenly; it is the end of a long road.” Judas walked with Jesus, witnessed miracles, and still turned away.

Holy Wednesday reminds us that proximity to Jesus does not equal surrender to Jesus or complete forgiveness to others. Faith requires more than closeness; it requires trust. Yet even here, Jesus remains in control. He does not panic or retaliate. He continues toward the cross willingly.

This day invites sober reflection: Even though I am close to God, do I trust God?

Reflection:

  • Do I trust in Jesus, even when I’m not sure what He’s doing in my world?
  • What expectations of God do I have, and how does that need to change?

About this Plan

Holy Week

Welcome to Holy Week. For centuries, the Church has used this week to dedicate the fullness of its attention to Christ’s passion, resurrection, and the events leading up to it. Over the next 8 days, we will explore the gospel accounts of Holy Week and how it still impacts our everyday lives, even nearly two thousand years later.
