Holy Week

DAY 7 OF 8

Holy Saturday

It could be fair to assume that Holy Saturday was the hardest day of the disciples' lives. The one whom they thought would change the world was unmistakably dead, and now they are left clueless about what to do next. One can imagine the fear, shock, and confusion of being forced to ask God, “Why did this happen?” Throughout history, this day has weighed heavily on the church because it acknowledges that, as much as we want to have control, sometimes the only thing we can do is wait.

Even in the waiting, God is always up to something. Scripture illuminates to us that on this Saturday, Jesus was still at work as He descended into death.

Hindsight helps us know what is about to happen… that Sunday is coming! Yet time and again, we can face challenges and wonder if God is even mindful of us. Saturday is a time to remember that even when there’s nothing more you can do, Jesus is still fighting for you. When you are forced to wait between the promise and fulfillment, God is still at work.

Reflection:

  • Pray for any promises of God that haven’t yet come to pass.
  • Ask the Holy Spirit to renew your strength in the period of waiting.
  • Spend 5 minutes in silent reflection, ask God to speak to you.

About this Plan

Holy Week

Welcome to Holy Week. For centuries, the Church has used this week to dedicate the fullness of its attention to Christ’s passion, resurrection, and the events leading up to it. Over the next 8 days, we will explore the gospel accounts of Holy Week and how it still impacts our everyday lives, even nearly two thousand years later.
