Easter ReflectionsSample

Jesus had previously warned Peter that he (Peter) would deny him three times before the rooster crowed. Too confident in himself, Peter thought nothing could be further from possibility. But when the moment finally presented, Peter denied ever knowing Jesus. He was not in the face of danger as such since it was only a little slave girl who confronted him. Nevertheless, Peter was fearful and self-protective, too. He valued his life more than he treasured Christ.
Have you ever found yourself cowering in fear in the face of perceived danger, shamefully recoiling from a stance you have long held to? Many of us would admit that fear has often crippled our public witness to the Savior. We have sometimes not refuted the scoffer who mocks our faith or hesitated to let the relative or friend in on our beliefs. Other times, we have too easily yielded to sexual pressure, trading away our convictions regarding purity in the name of love. Perhaps we have been given to corruption and cheating, bent on seeking our wellbeing even at the expense of honouring Christ.
As we ponder Peter's denial this Easter, may we be reminded that Christ is better. As we love Christ more, our strength to overcome every temptation to deny him also increases, for whenever we deny him, it is courtesy of that which we treasure above him.
Prayer:
LORD, my heart is weak at times and fearful. Help me never to deny you in any way before men, but instead to joyfully identify with you, whatever it may cost me. Amen.
