Like a Tree – DevotionalSample

YOUR LIFE WITH GOD THAT EVERYONE SEES
Give Away What You’ve Received
“You did not choose me, but I chose you… to go and bear fruit—fruit that will last.” - John 15:16 (NIV)
“What you have heard… entrust to faithful people…” - 2 Timothy 2:2 (NIV)
Big Idea: Public fruitfulness isn’t only personal—it’s reproductive. God wants your life to multiply hope in others.
Healthy trees reproduce. Healthy disciples do too. The aim of spiritual fruit isn’t simply self-improvement; it’s overflow. What God grows in you becomes nourishment for others. You take in the life of Christ privately, and you transfer it publicly as encouragement, truth, mercy, and hope. Then those seeds grow in other lives.
This is disciple-making at its simplest. We can invest in others by listening to them, praying for them, and teaching them what we are learning. We can model repentance and welcome others into community. Showing them what it looks like to follow Jesus in ordinary life. No title required. No microphone needed. Just a healthy root system and a willing heart.
A whole orchard can grow from one faithful seed!
Reflection Questions:
- Who is one person God may be inviting you to invest in spiritually (a friend, coworker, neighbor, younger believer, family member)?
- What is one “seed” you can plant this week—prayer, invitation, encouragement, Scripture shared, practical service?
- What boundary or rhythm would help you stay healthy enough to keep giving (rest, prayer, worship, saying no)?
Prayer Focus: Lord, make my life fruitful and multiplying. Help me give away what I’ve received, with humility and joy.

About this Plan

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
