Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 19 OF 30

YOUR STRENGTH

Receive to Release

“This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit…” - John 15:8 (NIV)
“Freely you have received; freely give.” - Matthew 10:8 (NIV)

Big Idea: Spiritual strength is measured by loving output, not just spiritual intake.

A healthy heart receives blood and then pumps most of it back out. If it can’t release what it receives, something is wrong. That picture exposes a common spiritual risk: becoming a reservoir—collecting truth, consuming content, enjoying inspiration—without becoming a conduit.

God pours His love, grace, and truth into you so it can move through you into the lives of others. Fruit is public. Love is visible. And Jesus was uncomfortably clear: disciples are recognized by love—not by busyness, gifting, or religious vocabulary.

If your life is heavy on intake but light on output, it may not mean you’re failing—it may mean you’re congested. God doesn’t shame you for that. He invites you back into the rhythm of health: receive deeply, release freely.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Are there any areas you have been receiving from God but have neglected to give to people?
  2. What relationship or environment is God highlighting as your “assignment” for generosity?
  3. What is one concrete way you can practice output this week (service, giving, encouragement, forgiveness, hospitality)?

Prayer Focus: Father, make me a healthy conduit. Let what You pour into me flow out as love, generosity, and fruit that blesses others.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
