Like a Tree – DevotionalSample

YOUR BRANCHES
Your Branches Are Assignments
“We are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus to do good works…” - Ephesians 2:10 (NIV)
“Now to each one the manifestation of the Spirit is given for the common good.” - 1 Corinthians 12:7 (NIV)
Big Idea: God has designed your reach—your gifts and influence are appointments for serving real people in real places.
A tree without branches may be tall, but it won’t be much help to anyone. No shade. No shelter. No fruit. Branches are how a tree’s inner life produces outward impact.
It’s the same with you. Your private life with God was never meant to stay private. It was meant to overflow through your “branches”—your gifts, responsibilities, relationships, and current assignments. For some, your primary branches are close to home: family, caregiving, and faithful presence. For others, it’s your workplace, your neighborhood, your church, your leadership, your hospitality, your generosity, your mentoring.
The key is not doing everything. The key is doing what God prepared for you. When you accept your assignments with faith and love, your life begins to carry fruit that feeds the world around you.
Reflection Questions:
- What are your main “branches” right now—where has God placed you to serve?
- Which gift or strength do you tend to treat as a trophy instead of a tool?
- Who is one person God may be asking you to bless this week in a practical way?
Prayer Focus: Lord, show me my assignments. Strengthen my reach, so my life bears fruit for Your glory and others’ good.

About this Plan

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
