Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 2 OF 30

YOUR LIFE WITH GOD THAT NO ONE SEES

The Quiet Life That Holds A Life of Impact

Likewise, every good tree bears good fruit, but a bad tree bears bad fruit. A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit.” - Matthew 7:17-18 (NIV)

Big Idea: The health of your outer life is determined through the depth of your inner life with God.

The Life No One Sees challenges the assumption that visible results are the only measure of faith. A strong inner life sustains leadership, parenting, and service when storms come. That inner life consists of private prayer, confession, Scripture reading, and honest self-reflection. Jesus meets us in the hidden places, inviting us to tend what is unseen as the foundation for all that’s seen. The mask you might wear, trying to look strong, important, or in control, will eventually erode if your core isn’t anchored in God. When you prioritize your hidden life, you discover that authentic transformation isn’t about perfect performance; it’s about growing private roots. The two realms—private and public—are not at odds; they’re two sides of the same life, feeding one another from the root to the fruit.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What would a healthier balance look like this season?
  2. Are there patterns of trying to present a perfect image? How can you move toward honesty before God and others?
  3. What simple change could you make this week to nurture a deeper root system (e.g., a daily quiet time, journaling, or listening prayer)?

Prayer Focus: Nurture my hidden life, Lord. Help me become the person whose roots hold strong when winds blow.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
