Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 5 OF 30

YOUR ANCHOR

Worship That Holds in the Storm

“Enter his gates with thanksgiving and his courts with praise…” - Psalm 100:4 (NIV)
“Because your love is better than life…” - Psalm 63:3 (NIV)

Big Idea: Remaining in His God's love means practicing worship and gratitude—especially when life feels heavy.

There are seasons when you don’t need more information; you need stability. When life disappoints you, when plans change, when grief or stress lingers, when you’re doing your best and still feel behind, it’s easy to drift into complaint, numbness, or quiet resentment. That drift is subtle, but it’s real.

Worship is an anchoring practice. We remain in His love through thanksgiving and praise. Worship is your heart returning to its true center. It’s not pretending everything is okay; it’s remembering God is good even when everything isn’t okay. And sometimes the most anchoring moment is the “sacrifice of praise”: choosing thanksgiving when you’d rather spiral, choosing awe when you’d rather control, choosing adoration when you’d rather shut down.

Gratitude reorders your soul. It loosens fear’s grip. It restores perspective. It helps you live based on attachment to God rather than from reactions to circumstances. Over time, worship becomes a pattern that keeps you from drifting—because you keep coming back to the One who holds you.

Reflection Questions:

  1. What tends to be your default when pressure hits—control, withdrawal, complaint, or worship?
  2. Where do you need to offer a “sacrifice of praise” this week—right in the middle of disappointment or uncertainty?
  3. What is one specific mercy of God you can thank Him for today (even if it’s small)?

Prayer Focus: Father, anchor my heart in Your love. Teach me gratitude that’s real, worship that’s steady, and joy that doesn’t depend on my circumstances.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
