Like a Tree – Devotional

DAY 3 OF 30

YOUR LIFE WITH GOD THAT NO ONE SEES

The Persistent Path

Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers. - Psalm 1:1 (NIV)
Sow righteousness for yourselves, reap the fruit of unfailing love, and break up your unplowed ground; for it is time to seek the Lord, until he comes and showers his righteousness on you. - Hosea 10:12 (NIV)

Big Idea: Growth is a patient, soil-and-root process. Your inner life shapes your outer life over time.

Lasting fruit comes through steady, hidden work. Real progress grows when we tend the soil of our lives—our relationships, environments, and influences—and develop a robust root system through Scripture, prayer, and honest self-reflection. Quick shortcuts tempt us, but genuine strength is built through perseverance in small, daily acts of faith. When we endure pushback and disappointments, our roots deepen, and our public life gains integrity and fortitude. The private life isn’t separate from the public life; it feeds it. As you cultivate patience, faith, and humility, you’ll see God’s purpose unfold in lasting fruit.

Reflection Questions:

  1. Why does lasting fruit matter in our lives? What is an example of lasting fruit that you have seen in your life?
  2. Are there patterns in your life of chasing quick results or outward approval?
  3. What simple change could you make this week to nurture deeper roots (e.g., a daily quiet time, journaling, or listening prayer)?

Prayer Focus: Help me become a person who doesn’t rush through God’s process of private health, but who finds joy in the new growth that is happening.

About this Plan

Like a Tree – Devotional

Psalm 1 describes the person who is like a tree planted by streams of water, whose leaves do not wither and who yields fruit in season. They are privately healthy, deeply planted and rooted in the Lord, and publicly fruitful. But how do we live like a tree? This 10-week devotional dives into the key principles of being rooted in God, delighting in His Word, and bearing lasting fruit for His Kingdom.
