The Christian life isn’t a sprint—it’s a marathon. The writer of Hebrews reminds us to see our faith as a race marked out by God, one that requires endurance, focus, and faith. We don’t get to choose the course; God designs it. But we do get to choose how we run it. There are moments when the road feels steep—when distractions, disappointment, and criticism weigh us down. That’s why Scripture tells us to “throw off everything that hinders” (Hebrews 12:1). Sometimes that means releasing sin, but other times it’s letting go of worry, comparison, or the need for control. We run lighter when we stop carrying what God never asked us to hold.

And the key to finishing well? “Fixing our eyes on Jesus” (Hebrews 12:2). He wasn’t just our example; He’s our source of strength. He ran His own race with endurance, enduring the cross and despising its shame—and now He stands at the finish line, cheering us on. When our focus drifts to the obstacles or the critics, we lose heart. But when our eyes are on Him, we find the courage to keep going.
