Bigger Than Us

DAY 22 OF 30

In this moment, Jesus was responding to a woman in the crowd who shouted, “Blessed is the mother who gave you birth and nursed you!” (Luke 11:27). Her words were well-intentioned—she was honoring Jesus by honoring His mother. But Jesus redirected her focus: true blessing doesn’t come from proximity to Jesus, but from obedience to His Word. It’s possible to admire Jesus, study His teachings, even attend church regularly—and still miss the blessing that comes from actually doing what He says. Hearing God’s Word is the starting point, but obedience is where transformation begins.

Jesus wasn’t dismissing Mary’s faithfulness; He was widening the invitation. The same nearness to God that Mary experienced through carrying Jesus is available to anyone who carries His Word in their heart and lives it out daily. The blessing isn’t reserved for a chosen few—it’s offered to anyone who listens and responds.

What part of God’s Word have you heard recently but haven’t yet obeyed? How might obedience—even in a small, practical way—lead to joy or freedom in your life this week?

Instead of asking “What does this verse mean for me?” try asking “What is God inviting me to do through it?”

About this Plan

Bigger Than Us

The real challenge in life is not how well we start but how we stay faithful over time. In this devotional, we will journey with God’s people as they move from brokenness to renewal. We’ll meet a God who uses personal burdens, teamwork, perseverance through opposition, His Word, and lifelong faithfulness to accomplish His purposes. When the opposition feels too strong, there’s a bigger God who meets us in the middle of it all—a God who works in and through ordinary people.
