Preparing for Marriage

DAY 3 OF 10

Become a Student of Loving Each Other

Love involves effort. Every person gives and receives love differently. Healthy couples choose to study each other with intentionality.

One mistake I made early in our marriage was not asking enough questions. I assumed that the way I was contributing, helping with chores, cooking, laundry, lawn work, or even planning date nights, was meeting my wife’s needs. But in reality, I was often focusing on things that I thought were important, while unintentionally neglecting what mattered most to her. I had to learn to ask simple but meaningful questions like, “How can I help with the laundry?” or “What would mean the most to you right now?” Those questions changed everything. They shifted me from assumption to understanding.

“What if God designed marriage to make us holy more than to make us happy?” – Gary Thomas

This kind of love requires humility. It requires us to listen, to learn, and to grow. When we stop assuming and start asking, we begin to love more intentionally. And the more you learn each other, the deeper your connection becomes.

Respond to God’s Word:

What is one new way you can intentionally learn how to love your future spouse better?
