DAY 17 OF 20

Day 17: Bring It to God

Scripture: Philippians 4:6 (NIV)

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.”

Paul doesn’t say anxiety is a sin. He says don’t let it run the show. There’s a difference between feeling anxious and being controlled by anxiety. One is human. The other is what happens when you have nowhere to take it.

The solution Paul gives isn’t willpower. It’s prayer. Not the polished, public kind. The honest, raw, “God, I don’t know what to do with this” kind. He says bring your requests to God. That word “present” means to lay it out. Like placing something heavy on a table and stepping back.

Most of us do the opposite. We carry the weight everywhere. We replay conversations in our head. We scroll to numb the anxiety instead of naming it. We isolate because we think nobody would understand. And the weight just gets heavier.

Then Paul adds “with thanksgiving.” That’s not toxic positivity. It’s perspective. Thanksgiving reminds you that God has been faithful before. It doesn’t erase the problem. It reframes it. You’re not just anxious. You’re anxious and held. You’re overwhelmed and loved. Both things are true.

Prayer isn’t a formula. It’s a relationship. And in this relationship, you’re allowed to bring everything. The fear. The confusion. The anger. The doubt. God isn’t intimidated by your emotions. He’s waiting for you to bring them.

Reflect: What have you been carrying that you haven’t brought to God yet? What’s kept you from laying it down?

Today: Write down one thing that’s causing anxiety right now. Then physically set the paper down somewhere and pray: “God, I’m handing this to You.”
