DAY 5 OF 20

Day 5: New Roots

Scripture: Colossians 3:1–2 (NIV)

“Since then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. Set your minds on things above, not on earthly things.”

Paul doesn’t say “try really hard to think about God more.” He says set your heart. Set your mind. It’s a deliberate act. A redirect. You choose what gets your attention.

This is the gospel underneath the whole conversation about what we consume. Jesus didn’t come to give you a better content filter. He came to give you a new heart. Through His death and resurrection, He made it possible for you to be raised with Him. That means you’re not just managing your old life. You’re living a new one.

When Paul says “set your minds on things above,” he’s not asking you to ignore reality. He’s asking you to anchor your identity in something that doesn’t change with the next trend, the next post, or the next comparison spiral. You’re rooted in Christ. That’s your starting point.

So what does this look like practically? It means building new rhythms. Not just cutting bad things out, but filling the space with something better. Scripture. Prayer. Worship. Honest conversations with people who love Jesus. These are the inputs that produce the kind of fruit you actually want in your life.

You’re not just unplugging from noise. You’re plugging into the source. And when your roots are drawing from Jesus, the fruit takes care of itself.

Reflect: What would it look like for you to “set your mind on things above” this week? Not perfectly, but intentionally?

Today: Build one new rhythm this week. It could be five minutes of Scripture in the morning, a worship song before bed, or a daily prayer walk. Start small. Start today. Let the roots grow.
