Day 10: More Influence Than You Think
Scripture: Ephesians 6:4 (NIV)
“Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead, bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.”
This verse is written to parents. But here’s why it matters for you: it shows that God designed family to be a two-way relationship. Parents shape kids. But kids shape the household too. You have more influence at home than you realize.
When you choose patience instead of blowing up, people notice. When you serve without being asked, it shifts the atmosphere. When you forgive instead of holding a grudge, it opens a door that was stuck shut. You might not be the parent, but you’re a part of the family. And your part matters.
Some of you are the only person in your house who follows Jesus. That means your life is the closest picture of Him your family might see. Not your preaching. Your living. How you handle frustration. How you speak when you’re angry. Whether you show grace when it’s not returned.
Here’s the gospel underneath all of this: Jesus entered a human family. He grew up in a home. He knows what it’s like to navigate relationships with imperfect people. And through His death and resurrection, He didn’t just save you as an individual. He gave you the power to love the people closest to you differently.
You can’t fix your family. But you can be faithful in it. And faithfulness at home, quiet, consistent, unglamorous faithfulness, is one of the most Christ-like things you’ll ever do.
Reflect: What kind of family member is God calling you to be? Not what you wish your family would become, but who He’s asking you to be in it?
Today: Do one thing at home today that reflects Jesus. Help without being asked. Speak gently when you’d normally snap. Start a conversation instead of retreating to your room. Be the Christ in your house.
