DAY 12 OF 20

Day 12: Wake Up

Scripture: 1 Corinthians 15:34 (NIV)

“Come back to your senses as you ought, and stop sinning; for there are some who are ignorant of God—I say this to your shame.”

Paul isn’t gentle here. He says, “Come back to your senses,” which implies the Corinthians had lost them. They’d been so slowly influenced by the wrong voices that they didn’t even realize they’d drifted.

That’s how it works with friendships. The shift is rarely dramatic. Nobody wakes up one day and decides to walk away from their faith. It’s gradual. You start skipping church because your friends don’t go. You stop reading Scripture because nobody in your group talks about it. You let things slide that you used to care about because it’s easier to fit in than to stand out.

Paul says, “Stop sinning,” which sounds harsh. But what he’s really saying is: pay attention. Be aware. Don’t let the drift go unchecked.

If someone put headphones on you and slowly turned up the volume, you might not notice until the music is deafening. Friendships can do the same thing to your spiritual life. They slowly drown out God’s voice and replace it with other messages.

Coming back to your senses isn’t about ditching every friend who isn’t perfect. It’s about getting honest with yourself. Where have I drifted? What voice has gotten louder than God’s? And what needs to change?

Reflect: Is there an area of your life where you’ve slowly drifted without realizing it? What friendship might be connected to that drift?

Today: Ask God to show you one area where you’ve been influenced away from Him. Don’t judge yourself for it. Just notice it and ask Him to help you course-correct.
