DAY 13 OF 20

Day 13: Walk with the Wise

Scripture: Proverbs 13:20 (NIV)

“Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Solomon makes this simple. Walk with wise people, you become wise. Walk with fools, you get hurt. The outcome is shaped by the company.

But here’s the thing nobody tells you: “wise” doesn’t mean perfect. A wise friend isn’t someone who never messes up. It’s someone who’s heading in a direction that draws them closer to God. Someone who’s honest about their struggles instead of hiding behind a highlight reel. Someone who challenges you instead of just co-signing everything you do.

And “fool” doesn’t mean unintelligent. In Proverbs, a fool is someone who rejects wisdom and lives as if their choices don’t have consequences. You probably know people like that. They’re fun to be around, maybe even magnetic. But over time, their influence leads to harm.

You don’t need a lot of wise friends. You need a few. People who know you, love you, and are willing to tell you the truth even when it’s uncomfortable. People who make you want to grow, not just vibe.

Think about your inner circle. Not your followers or your group chat. The people who shape your decisions. Are they making you wiser? Or are you slowly absorbing something that’s pulling you off course?

Reflect: Who in your life makes you want to be a better person and follow Jesus more closely? When was the last time you told them that?

Today: Text or talk to one friend this week who genuinely pushes you toward Jesus. Thank them for their influence. Then ask yourself: Am I that kind of friend to someone else?
