Joseph – A Leader of Integrity and Vision
Joseph’s life is a powerful reminder of the idea that true leadership is nurtured in comfort, but in crisis and unwavering commitment to integrity. Sold into slavery by his own brothers, falsely accused, and imprisoned, Joseph’s circumstances were the antithesis of a leadership track. Yet, through it all, he remained faithful to God and excelled wherever he was placed.
His journey from a pit to the palace in Egypt demonstrates a few vital aspects of leadership:
- Integrity Under Pressure: In Potiphar's house, Joseph faced temptation but stood firm, declaring, "How then could I do such a wicked thing and sin against God?" Leaders must recognise that their choices, even in secret, reflect their reverence for God.
- Stewardship: Joseph didn't just interpret Pharaoh’s dream; he offered a concrete, practical solution to the impending famine. He was promoted not just for his prophetic gift, but for his executive wisdom and ability to plan. A leader is a good steward of both resources and opportunities, seeing the future and preparing the people for it.
- Maturity: After his rise to power, Joseph ultimately forgave his brothers, understanding that God had a divine purpose in his suffering. "You intended to harm me," he told them, "but God intended it for good to accomplish what is now being done, the saving of many lives." This is the highest form of spiritual leadership: viewing setbacks through the lens of God's greater plan of redemption and blessing.

About this Plan

Leadership is a very interesting calling. It allows you to see what God wants for his people and, in the same breath, pushes you to learn a lot about yourself. I have found that God will work on the leader as he or she submits to Him.
