Kingdom Grind

DAY 18 OF 20

Day 18: Good Deeds, Wrong Goal

Scripture: Matthew 5:16 (NIV)
"In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven."

There's a version of doing good that's still about you. The post about the volunteer work. The story about the generous thing you did. The way you make sure people know when you've been kind.

Jesus says let your light shine so that people glorify your Father. Not so they glorify you.

That's a subtle but massive difference. Impact that points to you is just a better-looking version of self-promotion. Impact that points to God is something else entirely.

This doesn't mean you can never talk about what you're doing or share what God is doing through you. It means the goal of your good deeds isn't your own reputation. It's God's. You're a signpost, not the destination.

The teaching this week puts it this way: success is great, but make sure your success points people to God, not just to your bank account. That applies to everything. Your grades. Your talent. Your business. Your platform. Your generosity. All of it can either point to you or point to God, and the difference usually comes down to motive.

Check your motive. Not once. Regularly. Because it drifts. And when it drifts, the light starts pointing in the wrong direction.

Reflect: Is there something good you're doing right now that's more about your image than about God's glory? Be honest.

Today: Do one good thing today with zero documentation. No post. No story. No mention. Just do it for God and let that be enough.

About this Plan

Kingdom Grind

Kingdom Grind is a 20-day devotional designed to help high school students connect their faith to real, everyday life. Over four weeks, students explore four foundational themes —vision, integrity, stewardship, and impact — through Scripture, honest reflection, and a practical daily action step. Each devotional is grounded, direct, and built for students who want their faith to shape not just who they are, but what they build.
