DAY 3 OF 20

Day 3: The Fast Food Job Is Not a Waste

Scripture: Colossians 3:23 (NIV)
"Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters."

Nobody dreams about working a register. Nobody's vision board has a drive-through window on it. But a lot of you are there right now, or somewhere like it, doing work that feels completely disconnected from anything God might have for you.

Paul wrote this to people who were literally enslaved. He wasn't dismissing their situation. He was giving them a way to find meaning inside it. Whatever you do, do it like you're doing it for God.

That reframes everything.

The job you have right now isn't just a paycheck. It's a classroom. You're learning how to deal with difficult people. How to show up when you don't feel like it. How to do something well even when nobody's watching. How to handle money. How to be responsible for something that isn't yours.

Those aren't small things. Those are exactly the things God uses to prepare people for what's next.

The teaching this week mentions that sometimes God has you somewhere that doesn't make sense yet, because He's building skills in you that you'll need later. The fast food job before the business. The internship before the career. The small thing before the big thing.

Work it with everything you have. Not for your manager. Not for the paycheck. For God. Because He's watching, and He's building something in you through it.

Reflect: What's a current responsibility in your life that feels pointless? What might God be teaching you through it?

Today: Whatever work is in front of you today, do it better than you normally would. Not to impress anyone. Just as practice for who you're becoming.

About this Plan

Kingdom Grind

Kingdom Grind is a 20-day devotional designed to help high school students connect their faith to real, everyday life. Over four weeks, students explore four foundational themes —vision, integrity, stewardship, and impact — through Scripture, honest reflection, and a practical daily action step. Each devotional is grounded, direct, and built for students who want their faith to shape not just who they are, but what they build.
