DAY 5 OF 20

Day 5: Start Where You Are

Scripture: Zechariah 4:10 (NIV)
"Who dares despise the day of small things?"

Everyone wants to skip to the part where things are working. The part where the vision is clear, the calling is confirmed, and the work is paying off. Nobody wants to talk about the part before that.

But that's where most of life actually happens.

Zechariah wrote this to people rebuilding a temple that looked nothing like the original. It was smaller. Less impressive. And people were discouraged because it didn't match what they imagined. God's response was basically: don't write off what's small. I'm in it.

You might be in a small season right now. Small school. Small platform. Small influence. Small paycheck. Small faith, if you're being honest. And it's tempting to think that means nothing significant is happening.

But small things are where God does some of His most important work. Character gets built in small moments. Faithfulness gets practiced in small responsibilities. Vision gets clarified through small steps, not big leaps.

The calling you're looking for isn't going to arrive fully formed. It's going to show up in pieces, through small obediences, small passions, small conversations, small risks. And if you're too busy waiting for the big thing, you'll miss the small things that are actually leading you there.

Start where you are. With what you have. Today.

Reflect: What's one small step toward something you care about that you've been putting off because it doesn't feel significant enough?

Today: Take that step. Text someone. Sign up for something. Start the project. Do the small thing. That's how vision actually moves.

About this Plan

Kingdom Grind

Kingdom Grind is a 20-day devotional designed to help high school students connect their faith to real, everyday life. Over four weeks, students explore four foundational themes —vision, integrity, stewardship, and impact — through Scripture, honest reflection, and a practical daily action step. Each devotional is grounded, direct, and built for students who want their faith to shape not just who they are, but what they build.
