DAY 8 OF 20

Day 8: Who's Your Audience?

Scripture: 2 Samuel 6:21–22 (NIV)
"David said to Michal, '…I will celebrate before the Lord. I will become even more undignified than this, and I will be humiliated in my own eyes.'"

When Michal criticized David, he didn't apologize. He didn't tone it down. He said he'd become even more undignified.

But notice what he said first: "I will celebrate before the Lord." His audience was God. Not the crowd. Not Michal. Not his reputation as king. God.

When God is your audience, human opinions lose a lot of their power. Not because other people don't matter, but because you're no longer performing for them. You're not trying to manage their perception of you. You're just being real before the one who already knows you completely.

Most of the anxiety around what people think comes from performing for the wrong audience. You're trying to manage how you come across to people whose opinions change, who don't know the full story, and who are mostly thinking about themselves anyway.

God's opinion of you is already settled. You're loved. You're chosen. You're seen. You don't have to earn that or maintain it. It's already yours through Jesus.

When that actually sinks in, it changes how you move through the world. You stop shrinking to fit other people's comfort. You stop hiding the parts of yourself that might be "too much." You start living for an audience of one, and that's the most freeing thing there is.

Reflect: Whose opinion are you most performing for right now? How is that affecting the way you live your faith?

Today: Do one thing today purely for God's approval, with zero concern for how it looks to anyone else. Let Him be your audience.
