Parents and Kids Daily Devotional "A Place of Power"Sample
Imagine being in the position Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego were in. They have to face a powerful, angry king. Not far from there, a furnace heated up 7x more than usual. Near the furnace is a large statue, ready to be worshiped.
Given the two choices, to worship the statue and be safe, or keep obeying God’s instructions and be thrown into the fiery furnace. Which would you choose?
Humanly speaking would be much easier to just worship the statue and then ask for forgiveness from God later. Won’t God love and forgive us? But Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego didn’t think like that. They chose the more challenging road. They decided to rely on their trust in God.
Consequently, they were thrown into the fiery furnace. But, a miracle happened. They were saved! Because of this, King Nebuchadnezzar and his whole kingdom decided to serve the Living God that helped Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego in the furnace.
In life, our only task is to trust God without relying on our thinking. Especially when the choices are to do God’s will and the Truth or to drift from God’s path. Sometimes it might not be easy, but it’s the way to activate God’s power to work in our lives.
Devotion for Parents
The world often offers shortcuts. For example, getting promoted by doing a “curry favor” with superiors, giving bribes to “smoothen” business plans, or lying to attract more consumers.
What are you going to do? Can you keep trusting in God when you are in difficult situations?
Devotion for Kids
How do you feel when all your friends do wrong things, but you are not? Scared? Ashamed? Weird? Frustrated?
Remember that trust in God is shown when you do the right thing even though you’re the only one doing it. Don’t depend on your thoughts. Trust God and do what is right.
Family Devotion Time
Discuss further ways to keep doing what is right when others aren’t.
End with emphasizing that there is a time when all we can do is trust the Lord and do our best.
