Faith doesn’t appear out of thin air. It takes time. It’s a journey. It’s built. And according to Paul in this passage, faith is built by hearing the message about Christ. Faith isn’t something we lean on when life gets hard. It’s something that develops as we let God’s Word grow in our hearts.
God is faithful no matter what, and our faith in God allows us to live in His truth and to rest in His promises and His Word, even when we face challenges. Scripture has the power to change our way of living, our way of thinking, and our relationship with God. Stories we read in the Bible, such as Abraham’s trust in God with Isaac, remind us that God keeps His promises even when the path doesn’t make sense. Israel and the walls of Jericho show us that God can tear down obstacles that we couldn’t have moved on our own. And the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus remind us that God’s love will go to any length to bring us a restored relationship with Him.
Where do you need faith today? What problem or obstacle seems insurmountable? Where do you need hope and joy? Let God’s Word speak into that area of your life. Seek out a story in the Bible that mirrors your current struggle and let it remind you that the same God who showed up then will show up for you now.
