DAY 10 OF 21

Day 10 – BE LOVED: Correction

Scripture: Hebrews 12:5–6, James 1:2–3, Revelation 3:19

You may have heard a parent say, “This hurts me more than it hurts you,” right before correcting a child. In that moment, it’s hard to believe. All the child feels is the discomfort. What the parent is thinking about is something different. They’re thinking about growth. About protection. About helping their child make better choices in the future.

Scripture often refers to God as our Father, not to make Him feel distant or strict, but to help us understand His heart. A loving parent doesn’t ignore harmful behavior, and God doesn’t ignore what can ultimately harm us either. Hebrews reminds us that the Lord disciplines those He loves. Correction is not rejection. It is evidence of care.

That can be hard to accept, especially when life is painful. It’s easy to assume that difficulty means God is disappointed or distant. But Jesus says something important in Revelation: “Those whom I love, I rebuke and discipline.” God’s correction flows from love, not anger. His goal is restoration, not punishment.

It’s also important to understand that not every hard season is the result of something you did wrong. The Bible is clear that trials can also strengthen us, mature us, and shape our faith. James tells us that perseverance grows when we push through challenges, even ones we didn’t choose.

To be loved means trusting God enough to let Him shape you. Sometimes that happens through encouragement. Sometimes it happens through correction. Both are expressions of His care.

God is not against you.

He is working for you.

About this Plan

BeLOVE(d)

You are Beloved. Called to be loved. Sent to be love. This 21-day devotional invites students to discover who they are in Christ, learn how to receive God’s love, and live that love out daily. Through Scripture, honest reflection, and real-life examples, students will explore their identity, respond to God’s invitation, and grow in what it means to love like Jesus. Whether faith feels new or familiar, this plan challenges students to trust God’s heart, choose His way, and let love shape how they live.
