Under Construction
Have you ever seen a video of a building being demolished? Years of hard work can come crashing down in seconds, leaving nothing but rubble behind. It’s impressive to watch, but it also reveals something sobering: destruction is far quicker and easier than building.
Our words carry this same power. A single harsh comment or sarcastic remark can damage someone’s confidence instantly. These days, it’s common to find people quick to judge, criticize, or bring others down.
But 1 Thessalonians 5:11 calls us to something higher. Scripture tells us to “encourage one another and build one another up.” Consider seeing your friends not as rivals, but as lives under construction. Your words can become the support and encouragement that help them grow. Each time you offer real encouragement or share God’s truth, you help strengthen someone’s foundation.
There’s a deeper joy in choosing to encourage. When you speak hope into someone’s life, you might see them become more confident, standing taller, or acting braver. This isn’t just about being friendly or polite. It’s about investing in who they’re becoming, the person God has created them to be. In a world that often tears people down, decide to be someone who builds others up, every single chance you get.
Application:
Be intentional about encouraging someone today. Think of one person in your life who seems exhausted, overwhelmed, or discouraged. Take a few minutes to write them a note or send a meaningful text, tell them exactly why you value them and how you see God at work in their life. Go beyond a simple compliment. Let them know they matter, both to you and to God.
